# Directory
> The people in your conversations, collected in one place.
The directory is **the people side of your captures**. Meet someone, capture the conversation, and they become part of a record you can come back to: who they are, when you talked, and what was said.
People in your directory don't need to be Gobi users. If you captured a conversation with them, they can be in it.
## How people get in
Gobi tracks the distinct voices in your captured conversations. To turn a voice into a person:
1. Create the person in the directory and give them a name.
2. Link their voice to them.
One person can have several linked voices. Voice matching isn't perfect, so the same person sometimes shows up as two distinct voices; linking both to the one person fixes it.
## What the directory is for
Open a person to see the conversations you've had with them. Before the next meeting, that's your recap: what they said last time, what you promised, what to bring up. What a profile holds, and how Gobi uses it, is in [person profiles](/directory/profiles).
A directory with nothing in it says so, and tells you what fills it.
## Your directory is yours
Under the personal-core model, **the directory lives in your Home**, alongside your notes and your devices. Home has one member, so the people you've captured are yours.
A directory used to belong to the space its conversations were captured in, and everyone in that space shared it. That changed with the personal-core decision on 07-24: captures, notes, and the directory all land with the person who recorded. See [where your captures go](/privacy/your-captures).
