# Languages

> Set the language Gobi listens for and the language it writes your notes in.

Gobi has two language settings, and they do different jobs. Both live in **Settings → Language**.

| Setting                  | What Gobi uses it for                                                                                                  |
| ------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `Transcription language` | The language it expects to **hear**. Set this to what people actually speak in the room                                |
| `Summary language`       | The language it **writes** your notes in. `Auto-detect` follows the conversation; pick one to always get that language |

The two are independent. A conversation in Korean can produce an English note, if that's what you want to send to your team.

  These settings apply to new captures. Changing them doesn't rewrite notes you already have.
