# Ask Gobi

> Ask Gobi about everything you've captured.

Everything you capture becomes something you can ask about. `Chat with agent` sits in the bottom bar on every screen. Where you ask from decides what answers: in a space, the [space agent](/introduction/glossary#space-agent), which is Gobi as a member of that space. In [Home](/introduction/glossary#home), your own agent.

## What to ask

In a space, Gobi answers from that space's context: the notes shared into it and the people in them.

* Ask about a conversation: what was decided, what you promised, what's still open.
* Ask about a person before you meet them again: what they said last time, what to bring up.

</Frame>

## Point it at a channel

Type `#` in the composer to pick a channel, and the question runs **against that channel alone**. The `+` next to it attaches a photo, a file, or extra context to the question.

</Frame>

## Past chats

Chats are kept. Open the history to reopen one, and **long-press to pin or delete**. Pinned chats sit above the recents.

## What Gobi knows

The space you're asking in: its notes, its directory, and its public channels. Spaces don't leak into each other, so Gobi in one space can't see another.

**Public channels** are part of what the agent reads. **Private channels** are not: the agent doesn't take a private channel into its context at all. You can still pull it into one, by tagging it in a thread there, and it reads only as much of that thread as the answer needs and keeps nothing afterwards.

See [spaces and channels](/spaces/overview).

## Asking from Home

Ask from Home and your own agent answers, out of your own notes and the people in your [directory](/directory/overview). No space is involved, so nothing a teammate shared shows up in the answer.

This is the one to use for questions about your own week. Move into a space when you want the team's context instead.

## Search instead

The magnifier next to `Chat with agent` is search. It returns **notes, people, and posts** matching your words, each labelled with where it came from. Use it when you know what you're looking for.

</Frame>

## In channels

You can also bring Gobi into a conversation by tagging it in a post or a reply. See [posts and replies](/spaces/posts).
